It appears that in 2018 there are some who think that there is a “war on Christmas.” Donald Trump has taken up the battle cry, loudly wishing folks a “Merry Christmas,” not out of a particular piety, but in mock defiance of those he seems to feel are waging an unholy battle against one of Christianity’s most important and popular holidays. Not to worry, Christmas thrives not only as a deeply religious holiday, but as a secular extravaganza.
Ironically, there was a day and time when some people in the US did try to outlaw the popular holiday. Ironically, this actual “war on Christmas” was waged, not by enemies of Christianity, but by its strongest advocates. Read about it here.
