President Obama’s speech at the recent National Prayer Breakfast in Washington was one of the best, if not the best, speech by an American President on the relationship between church and state, religion and politics. Moreover, it showed how seamlessly his politics and his spirituality are integrated …. whithout obscuring the legitimate boundaries between his personal religious convictions and those wider, more universal principles that are appropriately applied in the execution of his responsibilities as President. Obama not only succeeded in navigating this difficult terrain in the non-partisan spirit which the topic calls for, he did so with humor and charm.
